How to Make the Most of a Mini Session

Short and sweet doesn’t mean rushed—it means meaningful, intentional, and beautifully you.

Mini sessions are like a little exhale in the middle of your busy week. They’re a way to pause, gather your loves close, and document the beauty that’s already unfolding in your life—without needing hours or a special occasion.

Whether it’s your first time in front of my lens or you’re coming back for a seasonal refresh, here’s how to make the most of your mini session with me—so you walk away with photos that feel like your favourite memories bottled up and frozen in time.

So, What Exactly Is a Mini Session?

Think of a mini as a shorter version of a full-length session—capturing the same love, connection, and story in around 20–30 minutes.
It’s perfect for busy families, growing bellies, milestone moments, or simply celebrating your now.

I offer them a few times a year in beautiful outdoor locations, usually timed for the dreamy golden light just before sunset. You’ll have access to the client wardrobe, a gentle pre-session call, and a gallery of hand-edited images to choose from.

Before Your Session: A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way

Don’t worry—I’ll guide you through every step. But a few thoughtful touches ahead of time can make your mini feel even more effortless:

What We’ll Capture

Even in a short session, we’ll create space for:

  • Snuggles and laughter

  • Tiny hands wrapped around yours

  • Wind-tousled hair and sandy feet

  • That one photo where you’re all looking and smiling (yes, we’ll get it—promise!)

But more than anything, we’ll capture feeling.
The way your child reaches for you. The way you look at your partner when no one’s watching.
The ordinary magic of being a family.

Tips for a Beautiful Mini Session

  1. Trust the Process
Even in 20 minutes, we can tell a complete story. Come in open, playful, and willing to let go of the idea that you need to "perform" for the camera.

  2. Let the Kids Be Kids
There’s no need to force smiles or poses. I’ll gently guide things so their natural energy shines through. (Feeling unsure? Read Why Your Kids Don’t Need to Sit Still)

  3. Bring Something Meaningful
A favourite blanket, a family heirloom, or your baby's beloved toy. These little details make your photos feel personal and timeless.

  4. Make It a Moment
Plan something sweet after your session—a picnic, a treat, or a sunset walk. Your session is just the beginning of the memory.

What to Expect Afterward

A few weeks after our time together, you’ll receive a lovingly curated online gallery of your images. You’ll choose your included photos, with the option to upgrade to the full gallery or order heirloom-quality prints and products through the store.

(Not sure whether to upgrade? You might enjoy reading The Power of Printed Photos, where I talk about why digital isn’t always enough.)

Mini in Time, Mighty in Meaning

Your mini session might be short, but the impact is anything but.
These photos will become the ones you glance at in passing… and pause.
The ones you keep in your wallet. Frame on your desk. Send to the grandparents.
The ones your children will hold close long after their tiny hands are grown.
